From Rome to Rover to the Royal wedding - Tony Blair is looking very prime ministerial at just the right time. There is, however, a down side to running the country while running an election campaign.
Events, dear boy, can jump up and bite you, like the car crisis in the west Midlands, which is dangerously close to a number of marginal Labour seats. Labour insist their priority is saving jobs not winning votes, but ideally they'd obviously like to do both.
What makes the Rover issue doubly damaging is that it gives the Tories political ammunition in the boasting battle over who can best run the economy.
As Mr Blair takes stock at the end of his first week of campaigning, he'll have mixed feelings. It could have gone better but it could also have gone worse. Much to the disappointment of their critics, the Blair-Brown relationship has been patched up for the election.
Three days in a row they appeared together, and each time they looked like couple of smiling newly-weds. Never mind Ken and Deirdre, and Charles and Camilla, the late contenders for couple-of-the-week are Tony and Gordon.

The Blair-Brown friendship suggests they remember the advice given to leadership of the "South" during the American civil war: hang together or you will hang separately!

Laurel and Hardy would spring to mind if the situation was not so serious.

Dastardly and Muttley seems to be a more apt description...or maybe "The Odd Couple"
