William Hague has said that the Conservative Party will offer the Liberal Democrats a referendum on an alternative voting system as part of a coalition agreement.
Mr Hague was speaking after Gordon Brown announced that he would step down as Labour leader and also confirmed that the Liberal Democrats had requested formal talks with Labour.
Reform to the voting system was one of Nick Clegg's key election pledges.
