Baroness Scotland, the Attorney General, has been fined £5,000 for hiring a housekeeper who was not entitled to work in the UK.

The Border Agency said she had not "knowingly" employed an illegal worker but was being fined for failing to keep copies of documents.

Lady Scotland has apologised for the error and has paid the fine. The prime minister has said he does not think she should resign.

Iain Watson reports.
