Brown defends Afghanistan plans

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has defended the British strategy in Afghanistan.

He told an audience at the International Institute of Strategic Studies that the people of Afghanistan should not be left to "struggle with their global problems on their own".

Mr Brown said British servicemen and women would be given additional resources to assist their mission in the country and reaffirmed a commitment to Afghan "autonomy".
