'We must get closure on this issue"

The government has defeated a Conservative motion pressing for the investigation into the Iraq war to have a wider remit and greater powers.

However, their majority was slashed nearly in half to 39 as many Labour backbenchers angry about Gordon Brown's handling of the affair sided with the opposition.

In the Commons, Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, said the inquiry would be able to apportion blame, prompting accusations from opposition parties of a government U-turn.

The former Liberal Democratic leader, Sir Menzies Campbell, and Tory leader, Iain Duncan Smith, gave their reaction to the BBC's Political Correspondent, Carole Walker.
