The government will fight the recession with "every weapon at its disposal,'' the prime minister has said.
Figures have revealed the steepest quarterly fall in economic growth since 1980.
Gordon Brown told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the length of the recession would depend on the effectiveness of global co-operation.
