Derry City cash crisis deepens

The club has been suffering financial difficulties for months

The financial crisis at Derry City Football Club appears to have deepened with more revelations from the players.

They will soon be owed around eight weeks' wages.

They met with the club's board on Wednesday.

It is understood they were told that unless the Football Association of Ireland pays in advance monies due for finishing third or fourth in the league then there's no prospect of them being paid any time soon.

The players say they have gone public because the position is critical and it is important that as a community club the supporters should know this.

Club chairman Pat McDaid admits the club's financial situation is serious.

"Financially, we're suffering. We're under enormous strain. We spoke to the players about that and we remain committed to resolving the issue at hand, in terms of the pay," he said.

The team have three league games left this season and take on St Pat's Athletic in Dublin on Friday night
