Fermanagh MLA Tom Elliott and his wife, Anne, share their experiences of adoption.
To mark National Adoption Week, Family Focus has been looking at the process of adopting a child.
Sarah Travers asks why so many children are waiting for adoptive parents and looks at the criteria needed to adopt a child.
We also hear from Fermanagh MLA Tom Elliott and his wife, Anne, who have been sharing their "life-changing" experiences of adopting two children, now aged seven and four.
They began the long process about nine years ago, and adopted a boy and a girl when they were both aged two.
"We went through between 11 to 14 meetings for each assessment. That's quite difficult, it can be quite intrusive," he said.
Anne said: "When you have them here and you show them your love and they give you their love, it is worth it."
Sarah also talks to Priscilla Haslett, the Adoption Services Manager with the Northern Health and Social CareTrust.
