Schools warned 'don't test me'

Education Minister Caitr�ona Ruane has issued a warning to primary schools.

The education minister has warned that "action will be taken" against primary schools if they help pupils prepare for independent school selection tests.

Caitr�ona Ruane plans a temporary three-year system of tests which will gradually bring selection to an end.

Many grammar schools, however, want to choose pupils on academic ability and are planning to set their own tests.

"I want to make it clear that if any school is found to be flouting the law, I will take action", said the minister.

In a heated Assembly question time Ms Ruane rejected statements by members of the DUP, Alliance and SDLP who said schools and parents were confused about the future of academic testing.
