Bombardier shelve job boost plans
Shorts production line
Bombardier is the parent company of Belfast aerospace firm Shorts
Aerospace company Bombardier has shelved plans for a new family of aircraft which would have created up to 1,800 jobs at Shorts in Belfast.

The company said it would keep a small team working on the C-Series, but it could not justify going ahead with the aircraft in current market conditions.

It says it will now divert resources into the 80 to 100 seat regional jet and turbo-prop aeroplane market.

A Shorts spokesman said they were disappointed at the news.

However, he added that there would be opportunities for the company to participate in other Bombardier projects in the future.
