A fireball engulfed the back of the semi-detached house
A couple and their five-year-old child have escaped injury after their home was destroyed in an arson attack in north Belfast.

The family were treated for shock and smoke inhalation.

An oil tank was set alight at Lansdowne Park at about 0220 GMT on Wednesday.

The family's home was destroyed and a nearby house was also damaged.

Forensic scientists have carried out an examination of the scene.

The police said the attack was deliberate.

Detective Inspector Brian Logan appealed for anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.

"At 0225 GMT on Wednesday, a young man with a grey hooded top was seen running away," he said.

"I am appealing to anyone in the Lansdowne Park/Lansdowne Road area of north Belfast who may have seen that young man, at any time last night, to please get in touch with detectives at Antrim Road CID office."
