Sally Young's Christmas savings were stolen by the couple |
A blind pensioner has described how she was robbed by a couple who conned their way into her County Antrim home. Sally Young, 67, was alone in her flat on the Drumtara estate in Ballymena on Wednesday afternoon.
She said she thought the couple were visiting to offer sympathy after the death of her brother last Saturday.
The woman kept her talking while the man searched the house.
They made off with about 1,700 contained in a handbag which never leaves her side.
Mrs Young had saved the money to buy Christmas presents for her 14 grandchildren.
 | I thought they were maybe relatives or something, or people who knew me, but unfortunately they were bad callers |
She said she believed the pair were in their 20s and spoke with southern accents. "I thought they were maybe relatives or something, or people who knew me, but unfortunately they were bad callers," she said.
As the couple left the house, they said they were going shopping and asked Mrs Young if she wanted anything.
Her son Tom expressed his shock at the robbery.
He said: "How low can people get? What is society coming to?"
