Elderly woman's burglary shock

A 91-year-old woman has been left badly shocked after a robbery at her home in County Fermanagh.

Two men forced through a window into her house in the Rossorry Church Road area of Enniskillen at about 0600 BST on Saturday.

They threatened the woman in her bedroom with an iron bar.

The men then forced her to come downstairs with them.

They made off with money, pension books and a British Empire medal.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

More than three burglaries a day took place at pensioners' homes in Northern Ireland during a four-month period this year, according to police.

Statistics show that 421 homes of people over the age of 65 were broken into between April and July.

Help the Aged, a charity which campaigns on behalf of older people, is organising a march in Belfast next week to call for action to protect the more vulnerable members of society.
