Extra police for music festival

More than 300 extra police officers will be on duty as thousands of music lovers descend on Swindon.

Radio 1's Big Weekend at Swindon's Lydiard Park has begun with crowds of up to 20,000 expected on both days.

Superintendant Kevin Maidment said police will take a robust approach to drugs on site.

Wiltshire Police warn officers have sniffer dogs searching for drugs with "amnesty bins" at the entrance to the park.

A spokesman said officers have been drafted from outside the county and any anti-social behaviour would not be tolerated.

Performers including Lily Allen, Scouting for Girls, Snow Patrol and Akon are among the weekend line-up.

Organisers say those without tickets are being asked to stay away.
