Annual music event coup for town

Residents of Swindon and surrounding postcode areas will be first in line for free tickets to Radio 1's Big Weekend, being held in the county.

BBC Radio 1 has confirmed the annual live music event will be held in May at Lydiard Park, in Swindon.

Crowds of up to 20,000 per day are expected to attend the two-day event at the Lydiard Park concert site.

Phil Young, from Swindon Borough Council, said the "eyes of the world" would be focused on Swindon.

He said the weekend was a great opportunity to leave "...a positive impression of our thriving town and borough".
