March against hospital closures
Health campaigners took to the streets of Wiltshire to protest against hospital closures.

Hundreds of protesters marched through Devizes on Saturday as part of a fight to save the town's hospital.

Devizes Hospital has been earmarked for closure, though a decision on its future is not expected until January.

It is just one of a number of NHS Hospital in Wiltshire facing closure. Others under threat include Trowbridge, Warminster, Melksham and Savernack.

West Wiltshire Primary Care Trust says it needs to make savings as it is currently 7.5m in debt, but that health services will not suffer.

Neighbouring Kennet and North Wiltshire Trust, which manages some of the hospitals under threat, is more than 8.2m in the red.

The march has been organised by Unison's Swindon and Wiltshire health branch.

The union's senior steward, Roger Davey, said: "The trust has refused to provide exact figures so far, but we estimate that 300 plus staff will be at risk across Wiltshire."
