Honda workers get 4.3% pay rise
Honda factory in Swindon, Wiltshire
The Swindon plant employs 4,000 people
Workers at Honda in Swindon are to receive a pay rise of 4.3% following four weeks of negotiations between the company and trade union Amicus.

The Japanese car giant had a record year for production and sales in the UK and throughout Europe in 2004.

Amicus officials will be recommending acceptance in a postal ballot of the 4,000 workers.

Amicus officer Jim D'Avila said: "This is one of the highest settlements within the industry this year."

The Swindon plant which produces the CRV sports utility and Civic models, made more than 193,000 cars last year, up by 4.75% on the previous 12 months.

The offer is made up of 3% on basic rates of pay - a 1% lump sum payment and an additional 5 a month attendance allowance.

Tony Murphy, the Amicus national officer for the motor industry, said: "It would appear that the union's shop stewards are doing a great job at Honda.

"This pay and conditions settlement represents yet another significant success story for our members and Honda. It is a significant achievement."
