Car plant pay dispute settled
Honda factory in Swindon, Wiltshire
Workers at the Swindon factory are delighted at the news
Workers at Honda's car factory in Swindon are to get a 3.7% pay rise after a row over wages went to arbitration.

Staff at the plant, who make the Civic, CR-V and Accord models, have been awarded the rise after intervention from conciliation service Acas.

They will get a 3.2% rise plus a 0.5% merit payment. A 2% performance award will also be on offer.

Derek Simpson, Joint General Secretary of Amicus, said: "We're delighted that Acas has given its support to Amicus' pay claim.

Backdated rise

"We have argued a constructive case that this was a fair amount and reflected what Honda's workers are worth."

The pay rise will be backdated to 1 April this year.

The union is still fighting Honda's attempts to increase the pensionable age from 60 to 62.

The move is designed to boost the company's pension scheme, which faces a 42.5 million funding shortfall.

But Amicus said supporting the move would be "like turkeys voting for Christmas."
