Sales up for Japanese car giant
Japanese car giant Honda has announced a record year for production and sales in the UK and throughout Europe.

Its Swindon plant which produces the CRV sports utility and Civic models, made more than 193,000 cars last year, up by 4.75% on the previous 12 months.

European sales totalled 255,721, an increase of more than 17% on 2003, driven by models including the Jazz and Accord diesel.

The company said UK sales increased by almost 11% to 91,000.

In December 2004 the company announced production at the plant was set to reach the record high.

A growing demand in Europe created by more diesel products meant exports from Swindon would be increasingly switched from the US to Europe, Honda said.

Honda, which employs 4,000 in Swindon, said it expected car sales in Europe to reach 253,000 - up 16% on 2003 figures.
