Special school could remain open
A special needs school in Swindon threatened with closure could remain open, its head teacher has said.

Swindon Borough Council is considering shutting or merging the Chalet School in Liden because only 25 of the 42 places are filled.

A number of options were put forward, but parents have been campaigning for the school to be left unchanged.

The head teacher believes that by developing new services the school could stay open.

"We will be doing more outreach projects - going to the town's main school and helping out - which is what we wanted to do," Kathy Bryan said.

"We will be developing a conference centre and a multi-agency resource.

"It's along the lines of what we want to do, and it's obviously what the borough wants to do, so hopefully we will stay."

A final decision will be made later this week.
