Police and traders in Devizes have imposed a weekend alcohol ban on under-21s in an attempt to curb binge drinking. From 12 March, youngsters who appear to be under the age will not be able to buy alcohol.
The town's three main supermarkets are supporting the scheme which is also backed by the Town Council and the local Chamber of Commerce.
The ban will operate between 1500 GMT on a Friday until Sunday.
Violence and vandalism
The voluntary scheme includes supermarkets and off licences, but not pubs and clubs in the town.
Police officers and locals say they have become tired of endless alcohol-fuelled teen violence and vandalism in the market town.
Sgt Andy Peach, from Wiltshire Police, said older teenagers were known to buy large quantities of alcohol and then sell it to younger children.
"We've even come across an 11-year-old boy with a six-litre cider bottle that was nearly as big as he was, he could hardly carry it, and he said 'I'm having a great time'."
