Princess Diana's wedding dress is Elizabeth Emmanuel's most famous |
Offcuts from Princess Diana's wedding dress advertised in an internet house auction may now be lent to an American charity . Gavin Young from Swindon in Wiltshire has staged a publicity stunt on the eBay website in the hope of getting offers of tens of thousands of pounds for the pieces of material.
But he told BBC News Online that so far bids had been too low.
The collage was now likely to go on loan for a year to a display in America raising money for a breast cancer charity, he said.
In the advertisement, his house is said to come free with the collage of snippings - and the property is not for sale on its own.
The collage was a gift of thanks |
The offcuts are from the final fitting of the dress before Diana's marriage to Prince Charles in 1981. Mr Young's sister Kerry was nanny to the children of designers Elizabeth and David Emmanuel.
When the Emmanuels were busy with the royal wedding preparations, the children stayed for a fortnight with Mr Young's parents in Kempsford, Gloucestershire.
The framed collage, with five pieces of silk and lace plus a sketch and a letter of authenticity from Elizabeth Emmanuel, was a thank you gift.
"I wanted to attract a wider audience so moved it from the memorabilia section on eBay to the real estate section by putting it up for sale with my house.
"But the house is not otherwise for sale," he said.
The approach to display the collage has come from the Pink Ribbons Crusade breast cancer charity which has an exhibition of many items associated with Princess Diana.
