Sir Winston Churchill will be sailing down the River Aire on a 41ft wartime boat as part of Leeds' efforts to mark the end of World War II.

The look-a-like actor will take part in a ceremony at Thwaite Mills museum to commemorate the 1940s home front.

A host of heritage groups are taking part in re-enactments of 1940s Britain at the heritage site at the weekend.

Council leisure chief John Procter said the 60th anniversary celebrations would be an enjoyable event for visitors

Other events planned for the weekend include displays of wartime memorabilia, tours of the mill, boat rides and a 1940s cafe.

The weekend will end with a street party on Sunday afternoon at which visitors are encouraged to wear wartime dress.
