Wreath to mark Churchill funeral
Winston's Churchill's funeral
Winston Churchill's funeral service was held at St Paul's Cathedral
A wreath is being laid on the River Thames to mark the 40th anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill's funeral.

The wartime prime minister's great grand-daughter, Sophie Perkins, 16, will lay the floral tribute near Tower Bridge, central London.

Churchill died aged 90 on 24 January 1965 and his funeral was held at St Paul's Cathedral a week later.

The wreath-laying party will be ferried in the Havengore, the original funeral boat used to carry Churchill's body.

Also on board the vessel will be the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Michael Savory, and Colonel Anthony Mather, who commanded the funeral bearer party on the Havengore on the day Churchill was buried.

The Havengore carried Churchill's coffin from Tower Pier to Festival Pier during the state funeral, which was watched on television by 350 million people worldwide and attended by 110 world leaders.
