Prisoner found dead in his cell
A prisoner serving a four year term for attempted robbery has been found hanged in his cell at Armley prison in Leeds.

Richard Carter, 33, from Keighley, was found by staff at 0610 BST on Thursday and was pronounced dead at 0815 BST.

A Prison Service spokesman said the coroner and prisons ombudsman would investigate the death.

Mr Carter was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court in April. The spokesman said the prisoner was not on suicide watch and was in a single cell.

He added: "Every death in custody is a tragedy.

"We offer our sincere condolences to Mr Carter's relatives."

Mr Carter's death is the second apparent suicide at Armley this month.
