Yorkshire Sculpture Park's visitor centre has been recognised as one of the best new buildings in the country. The �3.9m centre at the park near Wakefield has been given the award by the Civic Trust.
Completed in July 2002, the visitor centre has gallery space, a shop, cafe and 120-seat auditorium.
The 500 acre sculpture park attracts 300,000 visitors each year who come to see its permanent and temporary open air displays.
Wakefield Council was responsible for building the visitor centre.
Councillor Denise Jeffery said: "This award is a great accolade for the district and an acknowledgement of the contribution the centre has made to one of our biggest tourist attractions."
The Civic Trust exists to promote high standard of architecture and planning.
In giving its awards, it looks not just at the design of buildings but how they benefit the local community.
