The Yorkshire Sculpture Park has been awarded grants totalling �3.5m to continue its development work. The art gallery, near Wakefield, will use the money to improve the infrastructure of the Bretton Estate where it is based.
There will be a new indoor gallery, a lifelong learning centre, and new workshops.
In June 2002, the park completed the first phase of its development plan by opening a new centre with restaurant and visitor facilities.
'International centre'
Dr Fiona Spiers, director of development at the park, welcomed the funding from the European Regional Development Fund and Yorkshire Forward.
She said: "It will allow us to consolidate earlier investments, completing the creation of a major visitor attraction for recreational, business and cultural tourists.
"It will confirm the status of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) as an international centre for the display of sculpture.
"The developments are sensitive to environmental and cultural issues and greatly enhance YSP's continuing programme of regeneration through the arts."
