Officers raided homes across the city |
Police officers, some of them armed, have raided 20 houses in Leeds. West Yorkshire Police say it was an operation designed to arrest the criminals behind gun and drugs offences in the city.
Around 150 officers, 40 of them carrying weapons, raided the homes at about 0700 BST Wednesday.
They targeted "safe houses" from which they believe drugs and gun crimes are being organised.
Detective Superintendent Howard Crowther described the raids as "very successful".
He added: "The message is, no matter what level you operate at criminally, you will be targeted - West Yorkshire Police will take action against you."
It is expected further houses in Leeds will be raided.
