MG Rover collapsed in April 2005 |
An official report into the demise of the Birmingham-based car maker MG Rover has been handed into the government, four years after the factory closed. About 6,000 jobs were lost at the firm's Longbridge plant when it shut in 2005. The company was later sold to China's Nanjing Automobile. Business minister Ian Lucas said the report was handed in on 11 June. Birmingham Northfield MP Richard Burden said the delay had been "frustrating" and had cost the tax payer nearly £16m. "But the important thing now is to know what the report contains and I hope the government will be able to make a statement on that as soon as possible," Mr Burden said.
