Text service helps bus stop wait
Centro chairman Gary Clarke
The text service will give the time of the next few buses
A satellite-linked mobile phone service that lets people know exactly what time their next bus arrives has been launched in Birmingham.

The multi-million pound system is being used by public transport body Centro in a bid to improve services in the city.

Passengers will take a note of a code displayed at their bus stop and text 84268 to be told how many minutes before the next few buses arrive.

At least 1,700 bus stops have been fitted with the new technology.

Text messages will cost 25p plus network operator charges. The system is being used on 366 buses.

A spokesman for Centro said it would also help its transport control to tackle congestion as it would be able to see when buses get bunched together on busy routes.
