The tornado affected 1sq km of the city
Almost 100 new trees are to be planted in a Birmingham park to replace those ripped up or damaged in the tornado in the city last July.

Trees will be planted at Balsall Heath Park after winds of up to 136mph (219km/h) also damaged buildings and cars in the area.

The Lord Mayor of Birmingham Councillor John Hood will help to plant them.

"It's excellent we are doing this within six months of the tornado," said Mr Hood.

"It shows the resilience of the people in the area and all of them have been working together to repair the damage.

"This is just one other matter which is going to give hope to the people of Balsall Heath."
