Drivers travelling into Birmingham are facing even more delays as roadworks have closed part of the M6 motorway. The Highways Agency says the work is vital to strengthen the road, but it means serious problems for motorists.
The M6 is down to two lanes between junction 5 at Castle Bromwich and junction 6 at Spaghetti Junction. The work is due to last for 20 weeks.
There are also roadworks on the A38 Aston Expressway, one of the main routes into the city centre.
Work 'necessary'
It means there is no access to the Aston Expressway from the M6 at Spaghetti Junction for at least nine weeks.
Motorists will, however, still be able to get onto the M6 northbound from the Aston Expressway.
The Highways Agency is advising drivers travelling into Birmingham to get off at Junction 5 if they are going northbound, or at junction 7 if they are going southbound.
Carriageways and slip roads were closed at the weekend to allow work to take place on the elevated sections of the M6.
Paul Cockell, from the Highways Agency, said the work was necessary to rectify potholes.
