Tushar Makwana

A radio DJ died from serious head injuries after confronting burglars outside his home, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

Heart FM presenter Tushar Makwana was discovered lying outside his house in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, in the early hours of Monday.

The 37-year-old's life support machine was switched off on Thursday morning.

Police said they believed he was run over by the raiders as they escaped in a car after following them outside.

Chased outside

Forensic experts are examining a light-coloured estate car in connection with the inquiry.

Eight people, aged between 16 and 22 and from the Castle Vale and Erdington areas of Birmingham, were arrested in connection with the incident.

They have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Makwana' wife, Deepika, with whom he had a son and two daughters, kept a vigil by his hospital bed until he died.

A West Midlands Police statement issued on Friday on behalf of Mrs Makwana and her family read: "Tushar was an amazing soul mate, husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law and uncle."

A police spokesman said: "The apparent sequence of events is that the offenders kicked the door open, Mr Makwana confronted them and chased them outside, but it is not clear at this stage what happened outside.

"A light-colour estate car was seen leaving the scene."
