Debut for 186 mph Aston Martin
Aston Martin's new DB9 model
The DB9 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds
Luxury car maker Aston Martin has announced that its new 186 mph model - the DB9 - will be making its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The car is the first to be built at the company's new facility at Gaydon in Warwickshire.

Production will start at the end of this year and the first deliveries of the V12 engine coupe will be made in the spring of 2004.

It is thought the DB9 will cost about 110,000 and only 2,000 will be produced each year.

'Understated and individual'

The new model continues the company's DB tradition which includes the famous DB5, featured in James Bond movies.

"The DB9 will, without doubt, be the most important Aston Martin model ever," said company chief executive Dr Ulrich Bez.

"The DB9 is an excellent example of what we as a company stand for today, namely making elegant and understated British sports cars for individuals."

Until now, Aston Martin cars have been made at Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire and Bloxham in Oxfordshire.

Eventually, all production will move to Gaydon.

The new model is a two-door coupe with a V12 engine and will be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds and reach 100 mph in less than 11 seconds.
