Bricklayers hit lottery jackpot

Two bricklayers who have worked together for 40 years have hit the jackpot with a 5.4m lottery win.

John Radford and Alf Cole, from Wordsley in the Black Country, came up trumps in Saturday's Bank Holiday weekend draw.

The men, aged 59 and 60, who have been friends since school, were presented with their cheque by former Aston Villa and Birmingham City star Bruce Rioch on Wednesday.

The lucky pair have now decided to give up the day job and enjoy an early retirement.

Not moving

Mr Radford said it was hard to believe they had hit the jackpot.

"I just started to cry and laugh with joy, really.

"And when I got to Alf's house I celebrated with a glass of water."

Mr Cole said he will not be moving from the Black Country.

Barbados holiday

"I'll probably move house because I live in rented accommodation, but I won't leave the area."

Asked if he would be moving house, Mr Radford said: "I'm quite happy where I am at the moment, but we'll sort all that out in Barbados."

The men's wives, who are both cleaners, have also decided to give up their jobs.

The lucky winners, who have been playing the same numbers since the lottery began in 1994, bought the ticket from the Stars shop in Brettell Lane, Brierley Hill.
