Toddler's fall through rail bridge
Central Train
Central Trains said it needs to "establish the facts of the accident"
An investigation has begun after a three-year-old girl plunged 20 feet through a missing panel in a railway footbridge in the Black Country.

The incident happened at Galton Bridge Station in Smethwick just before 1930 BST on Wednesday.

The toddler fell through a gap in the footbridge onto the platform below. She was taken to Sandwell Hospital where she was treated for shock and bruising and is now recovering at home.

Kal Sandhu, from Central Trains, said they are still trying to work out what happened.

She told BBC Radio WM: "Obviously our first concern is for the child and her parents.

"A full investigation is now underway into the incident by the health and safety executive but we need to establish the facts of how this accident occurred."

She added: "We are still not clear at this stage how this could have happened."
