Troubled football legend Paul Gascoigne is to take to the pitch to help raise funds for cash-strapped Darlington Football Club. The former Newcastle and England star has agreed to take part in a match to support the League Two club, which went into administration in February. Gascoigne, known as Gazza, will join former stars from Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough on 3 May. The 41-year-old has recently spoken of his battle with drink and drugs. Fans will also be given the chance play alongside the stars, with five places being sold to the highest bidder. Darlington will field a team plucked from its 1999-2000 play-off season. The match has been organised by Quakers manager Dave Penney in an effort to raise funds for the club, which has reported debts approaching £5m. Mr Penney said: "This game will be fantastic entertainment and a superb end to the season. It will be a great family day out." Tickets will go on sale from Friday costing £10 for adults and £5 for children. Gascoigne played his last match as a midfielder for Boston United in October 2004.
