A teenager from Aberdeen has drowned after jumping into the River Tweed in Northumberland. Police have confirmed that a body pulled from a river was that of Stuart Craik, of Mugiemoss Road, Bucksburn.
His body was recovered from the River Tweed, near Berwick, Northumberland, on Sunday evening, a short distance from where a search had begun for the 14-year-old.
He disappeared after jumping from Chain Bridge, three miles west of Berwick, earlier in the afternoon.
The tragedy came just four days after a five-year-old boy died after falling into the sea off Northumberland.
Lewis Ashley, from Waverley Place in Newbiggin -by-the-Sea, was picked up by a lifeboat crew late last Wednesday, but died in hospital.
Swimming danger
Police say Stuart Craik was one of four youngsters who had been jumping into the river from Chain Bridge, near Horncliffe, when he got into difficulties in the water at about 1340 BST.
The search involved Northumbria Police marine unit, the North East Air Support Helicopter, rescue team from RAF Boulmer, coastguard, air ambulance, local fire crews and the public.
The body was later taken to a police morgue in Berwick.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police inquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the death which is not being treated as suspicious.
"A file of evidence will be prepared for the coroner."
Stewart was a pupil at Bankhead Academy, Bucksburn.
Deputy rector Alex Duncan said : "He was a fun-loving boy, who had just started his fourth-year at Bankhead Academy and was working towards his Standard Grades next May.
"Stewart will be sorely missed and the thoughts of all staff and pupils at the school are with his family at this very difficult time."
