Second Tyne cabbie wins Lottery
Lottery ticket
Mr Henderson scooped more than 553,000

A Newcastle taxi driver has become the second cabbie from the city in a month to win a Lottery jackpot.

John Henderson, 41, scooped more than 500,000 in Saturday's draw.

Three weeks ago fellow cabbie Bob Frazer won 14m.

He said Mr Frazer's good fortune had been the talk of all the taxi drivers in the city since he won his massive jackpot.

The self-employed driver is married to Paula, 43, and they have three daughters, Ailsa, 17, Shona, 15, and Aston, 12.

They are planning a special family party for Ailsa when she becomes 18 later this year.

Mr Henderson said he found out about the win after going to his parents' house to check the central heating was off while they were away on holiday in Greece.

'Completely numb'

He added: "While I was there I decided to quickly get the Lotto results on TV.

"We got to the second line and realised we had matched all six numbers.

"Paula and I couldn't believe our luck and went completely numb, but we couldn't wait to get home to tell our three children the good news."

Mr Henderson said he was considering expanding his business by buying more taxis with the cash.

He and Paula also plan to move to a larger home near their current house in the Walbottle area. He has already bought a new Jaguar - his dream car.

Mr Henderson won 553,689 in the draw at the weekend, sharing the 4.9m jackpot with eight other winners.
