Samantha Madgin gave birth to a son last May |
A 15-year-old girl accused of stabbing a young mother to death, has told a court she armed herself with a knife to break up a street fight. Samantha Madgin, 18, was stabbed a mile from her home in an alley in Wallsend, North Tyneside, in August last year.
The 15-year-old, who cannot be named, denies murder but admits manslaughter.
Newcastle Crown Court heard the accused had drunk six cans of lager, three pints of vodka and cola and taken up to eight lines of cocaine beforehand.
Miss Madgin, who gave birth to her son Callum last May, died from multiple stab wounds.

Giving evidence for the first time on Wednesday, the 15-year-old said she armed herself and went outside to pull friends away from an argument.
She said she took a knife from the kitchen, saying she wanted to "sort out" the trouble outside and wanted to protect herself.
She claimed Miss Madgin came towards her holding a glass bottle upside down and waving it around.
She said: "I thought she was going to hit me with the bottle. I thought if I showed her the knife she would move away.
Affray charges
"We started fighting, she pulled my hair and I was waving my hands about to get her off."
Defending, Jamie Hill QC, asked if she intended to hurt or kill Miss Madgin. The teenager replied "no".
Earlier, the trial heard Miss Madgin suffered 10 stab wounds, one to her face, six to her arms and three to her chest.
The prosecution claims it was Miss Madgin who tried to stop the argument.
Four men have admitted affray charges and a woman has admitted assisting an offender in relation to the case. They will be sentenced at a later date.
The trial continues.
