M-way closed for race preparation
A busy stretch of road on Tyneside is to close on Sunday morning for maintenance work to be carried out in preparation for the Great North Run.

The northbound carriageway of Newcastle Central Motorway will be shut between 0530 BST and 1400 BST.

There will be no access between Swan House roundabout and the Cow Hill interchange at Grandstand Road.

Diversions will be in place but people are advised to use public transport if possible rather than driving.

The southbound carriageway will be closed on the following Sunday at the same times.

The road is the starting point for the Great North Run on 30 September.
