The Newcastle star was unhurt in the crash |
Newcastle United player Albert Luque will play in Germany after escaping serious injury when his car was in collision with a lorry, the club said. The 28-year-old Spanish-born forward was on his way to Newcastle Airport to travel to the UEFA Cup match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.
His Porsche was damaged in the incident on Woolsington Road near the airport, but he was unhurt.
He caught a later flight and manager Glenn Roeder said: "He is playing."
Roeder added: "He is an experienced enough person not to allow something like this to affect him. He will be out there playing.
"He was kept back by the police for interviews, as well as the lorry driver who crashed into Albert's vehicle.
"Thankfully, he was out of the vehicle at the time at the side of the road making a mobile phone call because he had had a puncture."
