Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi has had surgery in America to repair his long-standing hip injury. Specialist Dr Marc Philippon operated on the 25-year-old, who is now likely to be out for the season.
Magpies boss Glenn Roeder said: "Dr Philippon, was absolutely delighted with his work. He was very, very pleased with the way it went.
"I am waiting for our doctor Roddy McDonald to give details, but everyone over in Colorado is pleased with it."
