Bottle tops prevent drink spiking
Special bottle tops to prevent drinks being spiked are being distributed to pub and nightclub-goers on Tyneside.

The "spikeys", provided by the North East Council on Addictions (NECA), will be handed out on the Gateshead quayside on Thursday and Friday evenings.

Police officers will also provide leaflets containing a series of messages on safe drinking.

The move is part of Northumbria Police's "When to stop" campaign tackling drunkenness and disorder.

Lisa Wood, young people's project manager at NECA, said: "We are not trying to stop people from having fun, but we do want them to keep themselves safe while they are out and will be on hand to offer any advice we can."
