Drinkers given anti-spike device
Spikeys in bottles
The Spikeys make it difficult for anyone to slip a drug into a drink
More than 20,000 'Spikey' devices are being handed out to drinkers in an attempt to stamp out drug-related rape.

The Spikey fits in the top of most beer and alcopop bottles, and has a hole just big enough for a straw.

The devices will be given to customers at pubs and clubs in Fareham, Gosport and the Solent East area on Wednesday.

They were designed by a Surrey businessman after his 21-year-old daughter had her drink spiked on a night out.

Our long term aim is to encourage pubs and clubs in the Solent East area to provide these Spikeys on a permanent basis to protect their clients
Pc Paul Worrall
Pc Paul Worrall said: "The spiking of another person's drink is both dangerous and irresponsible.

"Through this campaign we, as part of a partnership, are trying to highlight the dangers of accepting a drink from another person, whether they're a stranger or not.

"Statistically it is unlikely to happen to you, but you should be aware of the risks involved.

"Our long term aim is to encourage pubs and clubs in the Solent East area to provide these Spikeys on a permanent basis to protect their clients."
