Dismay after Christina cancels
Christina Aguilera
The pop star presented the MTV Europe Music Awards last week
Thousands of music fans were left disappointed after pop star Christina Aguilera was forced to cancel her concert on Tyneside.

The star pulled out of the gig at Newcastle's Telewest Arena on Monday because of acute bronchitis.

The 22-year-old had been due to perform in the city fresh from presenting the MTV Europe Music Awards in Edinburgh last week.

She had started her UK tour but on Monday her management took the decision to cancel her remaining two tour dates in Newcastle and Manchester on Tuesday because she was suffering from bronchitis.

Colin Revel, executive director of the Telewest Arena, said the news was broken as quickly as possible through the media.

Full refund

He said the show was a sell-out with 9,500 people and they tried to contact as many people as possible to let them know.

Mr Revel said: "I think we did very well. We looked at all CCTV footage and fewer than 100 people arrived."

The advice to people who bought tickets is that it is now classed as a cancelled show and Mr Revel said they should get a full refund from the place where they bought the tickets.

He said they hoped the American star would be back in the New Year and he understood Newcastle and Manchester dates would be her first dates.
