Lewd behaviour in public targeted
Teesside Police are clamping down on the misuse of public toilets in the Redcar area.

A number of facilities in the town centre will be targeted to discourage males looking for sex from soliciting in public premises.

It follows complaints from men who have been confronted by lewd acts, or in some cases propositioned, by males using the toilets.

Posters will be displayed warning that the facilities are under surveillance.

Offenders prosecuted

Sgt Shaun Quinn said: "Public toilets are in the main situated in busy public areas and as such are available for members of the public to use the facilities.

"It has been during these instances that men have been confronted by these incidents and propositioned by males loitering in the toilets.

"Redcar and Cleveland Council have kindly offered to provide posters to be displayed within the problem areas.

"They will be displayed inside the toilets warning that the premises are under police surveillance and anyone found committing an offence will be prosecuted."
