Police say cameras can reassure residents

Residents of a street in Yarm have become so fed up of anti-social behaviour that they have bought and installed their own CCTV system.

People living in High Church Wynd say they are sick of rowdy behaviour including theft, drug taking, and people urinating in the street.

Now they have installed their own 500 system to stop what they say is intolerable behaviour.

Two cameras watch over the street and six homeowners have access to the pictures through their TVs, which also enables them to record what the camera sees.

Residents say they were forced to take action after their calls for help from Stockton Council went unanswered.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police they installing security systems could give many residents peace of mind, as long as the equipment was of high quality.
