Family of crash victim 'shocked'

Scene of the accident at Heron's Ghyll
Tony Croft and Joe Grunwell died in the accident at Heron's Ghyll

The brother-in-law of a motorist killed in a crash in East Sussex has said his death was "a great shock to everybody".

Tony Croft, 25, from Crowborough, died alongside his 16-year-old rear seat passenger, Joe Grunwell, when his car was in collision with a tipper lorry.

Two other male passengers were seriously hurt in the crash on the A26 at Heron's Ghyll at midday on Saturday.

David Spender said the family of Mr Croft thanked "everyone for their kind messages of sympathy".

The driver of the lorry, a 63-year-old man from Eastbourne, was uninjured.

Two other car passengers, aged 15 and 21 and both from Crowborough, received serious, but not life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Dozens of the victims' friends visited the crash scene on Sunday to pay their respects and lay floral tributes.

Tributes were also left at the skate park in Crowborough where Mr Croft used to skate.

The road remained closed for more than seven hours following the collision while investigators examined the scene.
