The aim of the scheme is to improve care and support for victims

Six domestic violence courts set up in Sussex a year ago are having their official launch this month.

Solicitor General Vera Baird QC will set out how the work can be built upon in the future, at the event at Jury's Inn, Brighton.

The specialist court sessions are held once a week in Brighton and five other locations across East and West Sussex.

Independent advisers attend each court to support victims during their contact with the criminal justice system.

The launch is being held on 24 October.

The specialist courts in Brighton, Crawley, Hastings, Lewes, Worthing and Eastbourne are part of a national programme to improve the support and care for domestic violence victims.

West Sussex County Council said one in four women and one in six men would at some point be affected by an abusive relationship.
